Maxtel 3-3 VIP International - Sunday 21st March
A brace of goals from Bob and a Stuart Whereat finish after a fluffed penalty were not enough to claim all three points for Maxtel despite leading 2-0 and 3-1. Let's make up for it against Guru Ravidass in next week's scheduled final match of the season.
Kingfisher Unity 3-0 Maxtel - Sunday 14th March
Kingfisher tightened their stranglehold on the league title with another fine performance. The table-toppers who have hit nearly 100 goals in all competitions never looked in trouble. The nearest Maxtel came to scoring was a header against the post from Mark in the first half. The second half was not a spectacle due to the wind and rain - but at least Maxtel showed some brave defending with several clearances off the line. Our misery was compounded when Johnny Garratt had to be carried off late on.
Thieving Bastards
Cops have lauched an immediate and thorough investigation after hundreds of pounds worth of Maxtel FC property was stolen. The theft took place from Lee's car in the early hours of Tuesday 9th March. Lee and family were fast asleep having spent the evening watching television (including two episodes of Coronation Street) when the thieving b******'* struck.
I regret to inform you that they got away with the red away kit as well as the nets. The only silver lining was the balls were left behind. Senior club officials were locked in crisis talks last night to put in a contingency plan for the remaining three crucial league games. A source close to the club said last night "These yobs must be caught, it's the sentimental value more than the money - we wore that kit when we drubbed Castle Vale Comet 4-2 for example" Anyone with any information should contact Lee immediately. Anyone with any information about the crime should probably contact the police.

Yardley 0-3
Maxtel (Sun, 29 Feb 2004)
Maxtels last competitive outing was the 9-2 total and utter hammering dished out to Knowle & Bentley Heath over a month ago but they showed no rustiness to despatch their relegation-haunted hosts. Maxtel had already recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Yardley at home but were still smarting at being dumped out of the cup at their hands on penalties. The visitors started the brighter and it was no suprise when they took the lead, Matty Devolle pouncing for his 7th of the season after Bob's shot was fumbled. At the back Kirk contined to settle in at left-back with an assured performance while Matty Beaven's inspired display was catching the eye in the middle of the park. The only surprise was it was only one goal at the break.
That soon changed after a succesion of corners early in the second half eventually resulted in Stuart Whereat heading home to claim his third goal in four league matches. At the other end, there was a rare moment of anxiety for the back-line as Johnny Biscuits had to dive acrobatically to tip over a venomous drive. The result was put beyond doubt when Scott Christie whipped in an undefendable corner for the third goal. There was still time for Bob to hit the post but that elusive goal evaded him until he reluctantly limped off towards the end. Stuey Whereat also had a powerful effort ruled out late on from a free-kick that was deemed indirect. If the net hadn't have stopped it, I think it would have flown out of the park.
All in all, another solid away display to make it 10 points out of the last 12 for the mighty Maxtel.

Goal Crazy Maxtel
Crush Local Rivals
Maxtel 9(nine)-2 Knowle
& Bentley Heath (Sun, 25 Jan 2004)
Maxtel ran riot to hammer their local rivals for nine in a scintillating display of passing football here today. Justin was back to keep an eye on his troops and must have thought all his birthday's had come at once. Maxtel had waited a long time for revenge after a 3-2 defeat to Knowle on the opening day of the season. After some doubt because of a frozen pitch the match went ahead as scheduled & Knowle must have wished it hadn't within ten minutes when Bob opened the scoring taking his time with a cool finish. Soon goals were raining in delighting the home faithful. Scott Christie and Matt Devolle both finished off flowing moves before the 25 minute mark in the game.
Then Maxtel knew it was to be their day, Stu Whereat despatched a free-kick that Lauren Robert would have been proud of to make it 4-0 from long-range past a hapless 'keeper and record his second goal in his last three outings. At the other end the flag stayed down to allow the visitors to make it 4-1 but any hope was soon snuffed out when Bob picked up his second of the game at the other end.
Incredibly, there was more to come in the second half, this time Bob turned provider to set up Matt Devolle's second, a cheeky lob. Knowle converted a penalty at the other end but this proved to be just a consolation as Maxtel continued to batter their opponents. By the time Matty completed his hat-trick pouncing on another un-defendable cross the spectators needed calculators to keep up with the scores. Mark Fortner then got on the scoresheet having hit the post minutes earlier, this time he made no mistake placing the ball in the corner. There was still time for an own goal from Chris Moore to compound Knowle's misery.
All in all, the performance of the season and well worth missing "snuggles" for.
Super-Sub Lee Swoops To
Grab Point For Maxtel
Maxtel 1-1 New Inns Harborne (Sun, 04 Jan 2004)
Maxtel produced another super battling performance to grab a point from high-flying New Inns with a dramatic late goal from Player/Manager Lee Beetison.
Again Justin was away, leaving the decisions to Lee, who elected to put Bob in at centre-half and give Johnny Garratt the captain's armband. Maxtel responded, despite going behind in the first half with a much improved second half display. This culminated in a couple of charges upfield from Johnny Biscuits out of the Maxtel goal. As time started run out, Maxtel feared a second home reverse in three weeks until temporary assistant manager Ian Billingsley decided to throw Lee Beetison on with minutes to go in an inspired move. He responded in dramatic fashion coolly slotting home Bob's cross with less than a minute to go to get the point that Maxtel richly deserved. This also produced one of the most memorable goal celebrations of the season..
All in all, an excellent performance all round to start 2004

Maxtel Triumph
Against The Odds
VIP International 0-3 Maxtel (Sun, 28 Dec 2003)
Maxtel produced a sensational performance to record their biggest win of the season. Early signs were not good with many of the squad away including top scorer Mark Fortner, own goal king Denis Regan, Craig 'XXXX' Hevey, Adam 'Podge' Sewell and Paul Giles who decided to stay at home for Christmas snuggles instead. Even Justin was away in Norwich meaning that Lee had to somehow get a result by shuffling his pack to accomodate the eleven players that turned up.
Despite the odds being against them, Maxtel survived a tricky first-half. Biscuits was restored to the first eleven and responded by diverting an early shot onto the post. At the other end Johny Garratt was causing headaches for their backline which had kept two clean sheets in the last month. With Denis away it fell to Matt Beaven to take up penalty conceding duties which he duly did handling whilst on the floor. However, Biccies saved the resulting penalty diving to his left.
In the second half the unlikely midfield combo of Dennis Mulverhill and Matt Devolle started to win the battle in the engine room of the Maxtel midfield. The pressure paid off when a Johnny Garratt corner resulted in a foul on Stuart Whereat. Stu picked himself up to convert keeping his cool even when a retake was ordered. Before VIP had recovered from this hammer blow, Garratt doubled the visitors advantage direct from a corner - we are still not sure if he meant it!! The icing was put on the richest of cakes when Scott Christie weaved his way through the defence to make it 3-0 late on.
All in all, an excellent performance all round to sign off 2003
Mulverhill / Referee
Violently Attacked By Relegation Favourites
Sun, 16 Nov 2003
Maxtel stretched their unbeaten home league sequence to six matches despite playing a poor and often violent bottom of the table outfit. Lee chose to play inbetween the sticks as last night in the pub Biccies volunteered to ref the game(It seemed like a good idea at the time). Giles was restored to the starting line-up and pulled all the strings in a largely uneventful first half.
However, in the second half despite leading 1-0 Elswick showed why they are nailed on to get relegated this season as they totally lost their discipline conceding two penalty kicks amid disgraceful scenes. Dennis was pushed over for the first spot kick and then had the ball thrown at him before being punched and kicked leaving the ref no option but to show the red card. Bob's penalty was saved but Beetison made no mistake for the second spot-kick rightfully awarded for handball minutes later. This one was also hotly disputed by the ten-men who dragged the game further into the gutter by assaulting the ref and whinging about the decision for minutes afterwards.
Coach Justin Cracknell came on in the second half to make his first appearance of the season and said afterwards "They should be kicked out of the league for that, I want the FA to look at the video of this, what went on out there was a f***ing disgrace - the ref was trying to protect our players and almost got beaten-up for his trouble. There wasn't even any doubt about the two penalty kicks" When asked about Elswick's penalty appeal he added "Well, it was very difficult for me to see that from where I was"
Maxtel Complete Vale Double
Sun, 9 Nov 2003
Maxtel stretched their unbeaten home league sequence to five matches to consolidate 5th place here today to further embarrass those calling for Justin's resignation just a few weeks ago. Mark continued his rich vein of goalscoring form getting the only goal of the match from a clever Johnny Garratt free-kick. A second successive clean sheet was recorded without the help of Stuart Whereat casting further doubt over his future at the club.
Afterwards coach Justin Cracknell said "This is a big two fingers to the haters calling for me to quit a few weeks ago, I alwys knew if we kept doing the right things we would get our rewards and move up the table. I would like to dedicate this victory to my family who have stuck by me throughout the difficult early start to the season. I was pleased today by the way we got them by the short and curlies from the start and didn't let go. There is still a lot of hard work to do though." he added
Cup cheats hammered by superior Maxtel
Sun, 2 Nov 2003
Maxtels wait for their 1st home win of the season is over with a convincing 2-0 victory over bitter rivals Yardley. Recent signings Scott & Mark continued their rich vein of scoring form with their 2nd and 3rd of the season respectively. It could have been a much more convincing scoreline, Maxtel hitting the woodwork and having an effort ruled out after the 'keeper fumbled. The back line were magnificent restricting the visitors to long range efforts and recording their first clean sheet of the season (even without Stuart Whereat who will now have a battle to get back in.)
Afterwards coach Lee Beetison said "This was a crucial six-pointer for us, I wanted the lads to give me 110% and they did - the most satisfying thing was they let their football do the talking. Leading 1-0 at half time I knew the next goal would be important, if they got it they would be back level, if we got it we would have a little cushion. I was over the moon that we got it"
